Before and After 5: The Kitchen

With the gray and white scheme landed pre house-purchase, this project came together pretty quickly once the decision was made for all new cabinetry and appliances.  (Planning - the KitchenPlanning: The kitchen overhaulUpdate: The Kitchen Selections)  It's a bright little space during the day with the shutters and shades open - this is when the white on white wallpaper really shines.  Although not large in scale, the space is now very functional, aided by 46 inch cabinets, under cabinet power-strips, in-cabinet organizers, and good task lighting.  The kitchen/dining didn't grow in size, but it feels much bigger with the pale color scheme, new wood flooring married with the old, bead board ceiling a truly centered layout (I'm big on a center-point) and crown moldings.  What a transformation!

Before:  What can I say - there was an elevated drywall/plywood peninsula with cut outs for cat beds.  Mismatched granite, a tile floor, a dropped ceiling, no stove ventilation, poorly fitted appliances, and a sink that required one stand in the corner.

Before and After 4: The Front of the House

Nothing like a little trim paint, new lighting, numbers, some sunshine and flowers to jazz up the place!

Before and After 3: The Upstairs Guest Room

This room grew in size by about five feet when I extended the rafters across a previously open space….and made a world of difference:  a queen sized bed, dresser, and good sized end tables now fit comfortably.   I hedged on the deep Navy for a bluer-gray tone that looks terrific.  No furniture or linen was purchased for the space, and I went for the cheap and cheerful rug vs. the bolder, more expensive choice.

Before:  Tiny, uncomfortable (to get into bed one had to duck), a bit dark, some goofy angles, and could only accommodate a full sized bed.

This weird open area was closed off to make for a bigger guest room and bathroom
